You may wish to be prepared for a potential property tax issue by:

  1. Ensuring that all applicable exemptions are valid and in-place.
  2. Ensuring that the appraisal district information about your property is accurate, including any additions or upgrades made.
  3. Ensure that appraisal district "codes" concerning quality of construction, lot value equity/equality, and effective ages are accurate and equitable with others in your neighborhood..

These questions can be easily answered by reviewing prior tax statements or by contacting your local appraisal district.

You may wish to be prepared for a Valuation Issue by:

  1. Researching recent sales in your neighborhood - listings only show what's being asked, sales data shows what the market paid.
  2. Researching public property tax data for similar homes in your neighborhood to see that taxes are equitable.
  3. Researching neighborhood value trends to show any recognizable increases or decreases in market transactions.

These questions can be easily answered by using the professionals listed on the TexPTAN website!
